The Heritage Town of Kells is planning a centenary celebration of the re-founding of the Monastic Town of Kells, by the returning monks of St. Colmcille / Columba from Iona, Scotland. Kells was a royal residence before being granted to Colmcille by High King Diarmuid Mac Carroll, and Colmcille marked out the monastic site in Kells in 551 AD.
